PULSED DRAWING
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
F O R L O W - R E S O N L Y
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a Paint Programme with a
difference. It gives instant
animation such as that obtained by
other programmes using a CYCLE
mode when, as the drawing is
created, the current colour cycles
through the selected palette.
When the drawing is finished, the
colour cycle continues, giving an
effect of movement.
Usually, this effect is only
obtainable with freehand drawing,
but this programme allows freehand
drawing plus: Circles; Squares;
Lines; Rays etc.
Line thickness, speed, palette,
cycle range, etc. can all be
chosen.
The direction of the pulsing is
always under your control
(clockwise or anti-clockwise
pulsing on circles for instance )
The pictures created can be saved
and loaded. Loading can be done
outside the main programme so that
you may use the masterpiece as a
title page. A whole batch of
pictures can be loaded as a
slideshow, the colour and speed
settings are loaded with each
picture.
Degas pictures can be imported,
added to etc. and saved in Pulspic
format, useful if you want to
include lettering or some other
features which Pulser does not
offer.

THE MENU PAGE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most items on the Menu are chosen
with the left mouse key
.
The numbers at the bottom of the
Menu are used with the left mouse
click to select brush size and
with the right mouse click to
set the cycle speed - number one
speed is fastest !
It is worth noting here, that
different combinations of colours
give different apparent speeds.
Take the time to experiment
with different speeds because
the various effects can inspire
many ideas.
COLOUR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Colour is controlled by altering
RGB values of the first and last
colours of the palette. The
colours between are automatically
changed to graduate, on screen,
from the first to the last colour.
By default, black and white do not
cycle; the rest of the palette is
available to cycle or not,
depending upon the effect you wish
to create.
Clicking on one of the colours at
the top of the Menu page will
select it for use, either as the
colour at which the item will
start its cycle, or, if it is a
colour not in the cycle range, the
colour in which that item will be
drawn. Use the long bar above or
below the colours to choose black
or white.
The number shown to the left of
ON, when Pulser is on, can be
altered by clicking on it - it
toggles back to 2 when max is
reached.This number indicates the
number of the colour at which the
Pulse STARTS.
PULSER ON/OFF:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WITH PULSER ON, the colours will
cycle as the drawing is being
made,which means that the colours
will pulse ALONG a line,AROUND a
circle or square etc.
WITH PULSER OFF the line,circle
or square etc will be all one
colour but that colour will pulse
through the palette.You can choose
the starting colour by clicking on
the bar at the top.
Try drawing two thick lines, each
with a different starting colour.
Use different cycle speeds to see
what happens to them.
If you want part of your drawing
to stay the same colour: Use TEST
to see which colours cycle, and
choose one which does not.Switch
pulser off and use any of the
tools.
CIRCLES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Circles, squares etc. are all
subject to the chosen line
thickness.
Left click on CIRCLE on the menu
page, then click on RETURN. This
brings you to your drawing screen.
Press the left mouse button and
hold down while you move to where
the edge of the circle will be;
( moving to left of centre will
set the pulse clockwise, moving
right will set it anti-clockwise)
release the button and the circle
will be drawn. If Pulse is
switched ON then the pulse will
start. If the colour chosen is not
in the range for cycling, the
whole circle will cycle through
the colours.
LINES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The line function is the same as
that used by most art programmes,
except of course we have the
option to make the lines pulse.
After a left click on LINES, click
on RETURN to get to your drawing
page, now move to where the line
is to start and hold down the left
button.
Keeping it down, move to the end
of the line, when the button is
released, the line will be formed.
The thickness will be as shown at
the bottom left of the MENU page.
If PULSER is OFF, the whole line
will pulse as one item.
If PULSER is ON, the pulse will
travel ALONG the line from the
start to the end, enabling you to
have lines pulsing in any
direction on the screen.
NotethatthelengthofthePulse
SQUARES AND RECTANGLES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Having selected SQUARES, chosen a
SIZE and returned to the drawing
page, simply place the cursor
where a corner will be, then move
to the opposite corner before
releasing the mouse key. As with
the line function the thickness of
the lines which make up the
rectangle are chosen with the SIZE
function.
If PULSER is OFF then the whole
rectangle will cycle through the
colours (remember that you can
choose the colour to start the
cycle).
If PULSER is ON then the pulse
will travel around the rectangle.
It will travel from the start back
to the start in a CLOCKWISE
direction ONLY if your start point
was the TOP LEFT HAND CORNER;
otherwise it will run anti-
clockwise. (Try one inside the
other !)
Another useful thing with this
function is that if you simply
click on the mouse without moving
it, it draws a neat cross of the
size selected.
RAYS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It takes a bit of practice to get
the hang of this one but it is
well worth it when you do...
Having selected RAYS and the
chosen SIZE and returned to the
drawing page:
1 Hold down both buttons to move
around the screen to get to where
you want the CENTRE POINT to be.
2 Now release the right button
just before you release the left.
3 Move the mouse with the left
key pressed to draw a line back to
the CENTRE POINT. To move without
drawing, release the key.
4 To make a new CENTRE POINT- see
step 1 above
5 To return to MENU page press
right key when in step 3 above.
TIP(1):
A very good effect can be created
using the RAYS function to draw a
freehand circle, then use the
circle function either in the
ERASE mode or in another colour to
clean up the edges for you.
TIP(2):
To get a coloured background:
switch PULSER OFF, choose SIZE
10, choose RAYS, then when back on
the drawing page, make the top
left corner the centre then
holding down the left key, sweep
all around the edge of the screen.
This background will cycle or
not, whichever you have chosen as
the colour. Repeat this with
PULSER ON - only if you are
wearing sunglasses.
